A secret garden at the heart of the city

London like any major city, can be pretty frantic and hectic. And this summer it’s going to be especially crowded as millions of people arrive for the greatest sporting event on the planet – not to mention the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, The Chelsea Flower Show, Wimbledon and all the other events happening in 2012.

But normal life must go on. And that means people are still going to be booking meetings in the city, despite the fact that the place is going to be playing host to visitors from all over the world.

In this kind of situation any venue that provides a calm and peaceful space at the eye of the storm is going to find itself very popular with event planners.
Bloomsbury is pretty close to the centre of the action. The main Olympic Park in Hackney is only a short distance, while a number of other major events are taking place nearby – volleyball at Earl’s Court and beach volleyball at Horse Guard’s Parade, triathalon and swimming at Hyde Park, archery at Lord’s Cricket Ground, athletics and road cycling at The Mall and football at Wembley Stadium.

Amazingly, however, Bloomsbury is also home to an idyllic outdoor space that’s perfect for intimate and relaxed entertaining. The Montague on the Gardens Hotel, as its name suggests, backs onto the private gardens of the Bedford Estate. To make the most of this space the hotel has a spectacular Terrace and Wood Deck where guests can enjoy summer barbecues, afternoon teas and cool cocktails.
This year the Terrace and Wood Deck has been transformed into a Secret Garden. Designed in association with prestigious floral designer and fragrance creator Kenneth Turner, it is a charming recreation of a perfect English garden. Decorated with birch, rambling Leanna vine and summer flowers such as roses and hanging wisteria, it provides a colourful, inspiring and relaxing space that’s available for private hire.

Launched on May 1st, and staying open until September 7th, it’s bound to be a popular choice with those who need a London venue that’s central, yet as charming and peaceful as an English garden way out of town.
